Demise of Dagon

Dagon lies shattered on the temple floor, his severed form exposed before the radiant Ark of the Covenant. Philistine witnesses enter the doorway in alarm as the broken idol and scattered fragments reveal the defeat of a false god in the presence of the Lord. The golden ark rests nearby with cherubim upon the mercy seat, emphasizing God’s holiness and sovereign authority over every man-made power.

The scene reflects 1 Samuel 5, when the Philistines captured the ark and placed it in the house of Dagon at Ashdod. By morning, Dagon had fallen before the ark; the next day his head and hands were cut off on the threshold. The visual contrast between the fallen idol and the untouched ark teaches that the God of Israel is not contained by enemies or temples, and that idols cannot stand before His glory.
